Just like 'Daddy Doughnut' Day...Layna also had a 'Mommy and Muffin's' Day at her preschool. They served us muffins and fruit along with giving us placemats and candle holders that they made for us. The best part was seeing them sing songs and tell stories! I love you Layna--You are getting so big!!

Great Grandma Fry

On Good Friday--after 4 months of declining health--My Grandma Fry went to Heaven. Although it was hard to lose her, I am so thankful for the time she was able to spend with my girls during the last years of her life. We will cherish those memories forever. I was honored to speak at her Memorial Service and we had a great weekend celebrating her life and memory with our family over Mother's Day Weekend! We love you Grandma!

Karl's 30th Birthday

For Karl's 30th Birthday I surprised him by asking his brother Eric to come in for the weekend. He so generously made the trip along with Karl's parents and Grandma. Karl had a great weekend of golfing, grilling, and guy time! And he deserves it...living in a house with all girls! We love you K! Hope you had a great 30th Birthday!

My best friend Rachel, her husband Billy, and her twins Micah and Malorie are BACK IN TOWN!! Can you tell I am excited!? Well I knew we would be seeing eachother a lot...but we have been averaging 3 playdates a week with dinner at eachother's house atleast twice a week!! In short--ITS WONDERFUL!!! We could not be more thrilled that they are living back in St. Louis..and the fact that they bought a house exactly 2.5 minutes from our house doesnt stop us from making quick trips over for icecream or a beer. Welcome home friends!!

I have to tell the truth--I did NOT think my little Claire was going to sit still for her 1st hair cut...but low and behold...they had a MICKEY MOUSE DVD. I dont have enough time or room on this blog to tell you all how much this little girl loves Mickey Mouse! WOW!

We have been very blessed this winter that Layna has been healthy. She takes her medicine and takes her inhaler like such a trooper. One of the weekends that Leeann was in town, Layna needed to do her nebulizer because she had a slight cough. In the picture below you will see my amazing friend Leeann pretending to be the 'Crazy Nurse' who needed Layna to do her treatment. Ahhh...Its such a blessing to have friends who will go to any length for their friends kiddo! Love you Leeann! :)

Layna has had a fabulous experience at Preschool this year. Her teacher, Mrs. Schultz has been wonderful--especially managing her food allergies. For Daddy and Doughnut Day Layna made special blueberry muffins to bring in that were milk free. All of the parents in Layna's class have been nice enough to ALWAYS bring milk and peanut free birthday snacks. We have been blessed and Layna is excited to go to school 3 days next year..and even pack her lunch!

WOW! So I have been a HORRIBLE Blogger the past 6 months! It is embarassing to see that my last post was about Christmas! I guess this is a reflection of how busy we have been. I have dedicated the next 45 minutes of my time to play catch up. These sweet pics were taken Jan-March. The Nelson sister continue to grow closer day by day and LOVED playing 'jungle gym' in our family room during the long winter months!

After we returned home from Chicago we discovered that Santa had come to our house too!! We started the morning with Layna passing out the gifts she had gotten us from her Santa's Workshop at school. It was really neat to see how excited she was to GIVE--as opposed to wanting to open her own gifts! She gave me an Angel pin and Angel ornament. (I plan to remind her that she once saw Mommy as an Angel..maybe when she is 13?!) For Karl she picked out a Cardinal's Baseball, Cardinal Bear, and pad of paper that said DADDY! Claire also got a teddy bear with matching book! Layna's favorite present under the tree was her Prince Eric, Aurora Barbie and Princess Watch. Claire was mostly distracted with the boxes but she loved her stacking blocks, shape sorter, mum mums, and puffs! It was a great morning with lots of memories made! Our 1st Christmas with both little girls...the 1st of many more to come! :)

Christmas Eve in Chicago

We were in Chicago for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day this year! It was a wonderful time to relax and enjoy some quality time with Grandma and Grandpa Nelson! We also visited with Sheila and kids-went out to dinner at BUCA- and attended the 5pm service at Kurt and Bev's church. Layna was surprised with a PRINCESS CASTLE and Claire loved her Snap N Style Babies. We had a very relaxing time. Here are a few of my favorites!

While in Chicago over Christmas- Karl and Layna were able to play in the snow for almost 2 hrs! They had snowball fights, made snow angles, and even went sledding! At the almost 2 hr mark--Karl told Layna that he was TIRED! Layna quickly replied with 'IM NOT!' :) Claire watched from up in the bedroom -wishing she were in the snow too! Maybe next year little one!

Being that I love to throw birthday parties for my girls--I had to come up with the perfect theme for Claire's 1st! PENGUINS! Bev found this perfect little bow and so I had to make her a shirt to match! The back says 'Waddlin' to 1'-- and Karl gets all the credit for this! Nelson Family Reunion

We had a Nelson Family Reunion here in St. Louis the weekend of Dec 18th-20th. Eric and his family drove up from South Carolina and the rest of the Chicago Crew made the trip too. We celebrated Christmas, Claire's and Alex's Birthday, and took TONS of pictures! So many that I need a whole new scrapbook just to fit them all!! We had a blast--and it was so fun to see all 10 grandkids play together!

We had a great time celebrating Christmas at the Zimmermans on December 18th. The girls got carseats, diapers, clothes and toys! Karl opened a Garmin--along with 5 bags of his favorite pretzels--and I got an AWESOME camera strap and an Ipod! We enjoyed having the whole family together!

Jamaica 2010

Karl and I were given a wonderful gift this December when Kurt and Bev came and stayed with our girls while we took a weeks vacation in Jamaica!! For all their kids 30th Birthdays- Kurt and Bev give the generous gift of a trip + childcare!! Kurt and Bev own a beautiful condo in Negril--so we even had a free place to stay!! Although I was a nervous wreck the weeks leading up to the trip--the girls ended up having a blast with Grandpa and Grandma Nelson and Karl and I had an AMAZING TIME! The 1st few days were rough for me as I felt like I was missing my two arms--I even told Karl I didnt know if I could stay the whole time--but once I was able to relax---it was such a blessing!! I will have a huge section of pictures in my scrapbook (of course) but these are just a few of my FAVS! The picture below was taken in the exact same spot (7 years earlier) when we were on our honeymoon! The only difference was that Im sure I was in some skimpy bikini---not thinking about my two little girls back home! HA! This is a trip that we look forward to taking again---maybe every couple of years if we are lucky!

Thanksgiving 2010

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving this year at the Zimmerman's! Grandpa and Grandma Fry were able to join us which is always such a blessing! Kurt and Bev were in town and we were able to spend the afternoon over at the Ferris house with the Nelson side of the family. Then again this year---crazy as the all the years before---I got left the house at 2:30am to go shopping with Bev and Sheri at Kohls. I had a great time and was back in bed by 4am--Sheri and Bev were much braver--they headed to the mall and were out and about for another 4 hrs! A great time was had by all...and some great deals were found as well!

Asthma...

On October 23rd we took Layna to the ER at St. John's because she was coughing, weezing, and generally having a hard time breathing. My parents were over that evening--which was a blessing because my mom knew that Layna needed to go to the hospital ASAP. What I thought would be a quick visit to the ER turned into a 2 night stay at the St. John's Children's Hospital. During our visit- it was confirmed that Layna had ASTHMA. Although this is a scary disease...I was very glad that we were able to see all of the specialists and receive the best care possible. Layna was also tested for seasonal/indoor allergies and it was concluded that she is allergic to OAK, CATS, and DOGS. Just to give you an idea of HOW allergic she is...her MILK # is a 9. Cats is 75 and Dogs are 69. We know she reacts severly to milk...and very severly to cats and dogs!! While in the hospital they had a HUGE holloween party with crafts, characters and candy. A nurse also brought Layna her own private doll house to her room. Any time Layna had to get blood drawn or any other test..she was given a Barbie or Polly Pocket. All in all the staff and care was wonderful! Layna now takes her Flovent inhaler twice a day, Zyrtec in the am, Singulair in the pm, and Albuteral nebulizer treatments as needed. This regimine seems to be working well so far. Although we found the Nelson Pharmacy expand after this hospitilization--it seems as though our little girl is doing just fine! Which is by far the most important thing! We love you Layna!

We had a wonderful Halloween and a special thanks goes out to our WONDERFUL Mary for making Layna's carrot costume. I found Claire's Peapod costume at a kids sale last year and so then I found an article about how to make a carrot costume! Needless to say I do not have a sewing maching--and so Mary offered to attempt it. I think it turned out great! We had an awesome time at our neighborhood party with G and G Zimmerman, Laura and her boys and Mary.

We kept our tradition again this year by taking both girls to the Pumpkin Patch! Last year at this time I was big and pregnant with Claire and it was so nice to have both of my little girls with me this time. Karl made a big breakfast this morning for our wonderful Mary as we invited her to come along also. We had a great time watching Layna run around and I of course took about 75 pictures! It was a beautiful day and we are so blessed with our two beautiful little girls!

9 MONTHS OLD!

I cant believe my baby is 9 Months old this week! Claire is such a joy to have around our house--and yes--she is now moving ALL AROUND OUR HOUSE! She began sitting at around 7 months old and three weeks later she was crawling. It has now been about 2 1/2 weeks since she started crawling and she is now standing up next to the couch and fireplace. Today as she was standing next to the couch--she turned her hip, let go with one hand and looked like she was just going to take off! I thought to myself 'NOOO...I'm SOO not ready for this yet!' It is so fun to see how different she is from Layna. She is far more feisty, active and curious that Layna ever was. Claire climbs, digs, grabs and moves FAST! Today for instance--I was in the kitchen and I would open the fridge...BOOM Claire was in the fridge..I would sneek in the cabnet...POW...there was Claire pulling herself up on the shelf! From what I hear her daddy started walking at 9 months--so we shall see! Claire stopped nursing all together about 2 weeks ago. Simply put- she was too busy to sit still that long. Although I was a little sad--it has been nice to give her a bottle as she prefers to sit up and drink like a big girl!

In other news...Layna had a preschool screening today up at the Parkway Early Childhood Center..and she scored well above her age in all areas! She could count to 12..knew all her numbers and colors, identified all her letters and could take a three part command. She waited her turn, shared with the other kids and was polite and kind! What more could a mommy ask for!? I know..I know...Im SO 'that mom' for posting this on here but I had to brag my oldest up a bit!

LOVIN' LIFE AND LOVIN' MY GIRLS!!

1st Day of PRESCHOOL!

It doesnt seem possible that I just typed in the heading that my baby girl is going to SCHOOL!! Thanks to the crash course (cold turkey) potty training that we did last week- she was able to attend on her 1st day. She will go to school on Mon and Wen from 8:30-11:30am. She was very excited today as we were walking in--but then as we started giving hugs and kisses goodbye she started to cry. Thankfully her wonderful teacher Mrs. Schultz picked her up and gave me the nod to leave. Those of you that know my Layna will get a kick out of hearing that she started yelling 'BACK UP and WAVE...and HONK YOUR HORN' as I was leaving. A ritual for every guest that leaves our house nowadays. I have to admit that I did stand around the corner in the hallway to make sure she stopped crying (which she did after about 22 seconds) I was anxious all morning to see how she had done and turns out: SHE DID GREAT!! Even got up on the big potty all by herself! She later informed me that some kids were a little SHY and didnt want to sing the songs but she wasnt!! As we were taking a walk this afternoon I could hear her singing 'School today...school today' a new song they learned in class. My baby girl is growing up..and I'm soo proud!! :)

Gulf Shores 2010

We were very blessed this summer that the Bates Family let the Zimmerman Crew spend a week down in their house at Gulf Shores. Karl stayed behind because he only has two weeks of vacation--so the girls and I headed down with my mom and dad, Brad, Sarah, and Aunt Jill. It was a great week with beautiful (HOT) weather. The beach and town were DEAD due to the oil spill. The beaches and water looked great to us--so great that one day around noon we decided to go for a swim in the ocean.... Note: Many of you have already heard this story in detail but I need to write it down so that my grandkids can read about it one day... :)

Anyhow--My dad, Brad, Layna and I were all swimming out in the ocean (about up to our chest) when my aunt Jill who was standing on shore starts telling us that there are HUGE stingray right up close to the beach! We start to make our way over that direction when I hear Brad behind me yell 'SHARK'....(pause)....'SHAAARRKKK'. It was like time stood still--I held on tight to my little girl and ran towards the shore as quickly as I could. As I was running in- I see Jill waving and pointing and yelling 'Ohhh...there it is!! It's RIGHT there!' AHHHH!!! I'm blessed to say that we were all unharmed and the only two who saw the shark were Brad and Jill. Brad's account is as follows: 'At first I saw the tip of a fin..so I kept looking and then I saw this huge fin come up on top of the water. Next I saw the whole body of the shark surface and it was atleast 6-8 ft long and swimming back and forth. It was closer to the beach than we were and about 10 ft away from us. Jen- you had to pass by it on your way in!' I have goosebumps as I type this again. Later that day I asked Brad if he thought it was one of those nurse sharks...that are smaller and harmless. He quickly answered 'NO..that thing was a BIG, HUGE Shark!' We did some research and think it was probably a Bull Shark--which are common in the gulf. I am VERY thankful that no one was hurt. Especially being that I was carrying my baby girl. I am glad to have this story down in writing but to be honest--I try not to think about it much as it still freaks me out. Ohh...and did I mention that this all happened during SHARK WEEK! CREEPY!

Something else I try and forget but will document so that one day it will be funny (maybe)...is that silly Jenna forgot to lock the car on our 1st night there and someone stole our Garmin and my 32G IPOD. BOOOOO HISSSSS!! Ohh well---atleast I still have all of my limbs!

The Little Zoo

One morning while in Gulf Shores- I decided that Brad and I should take Layna and check out The Little Zoo. Monica Bates had raved about it and so I had to check it out. In short- SOOO COOL!! They had tons of awesome animals in such a short proximity- it was just perfect. We even paid $5 extra to go and have an experience with baby kangaroos. It was really hot--but we saw the entire zoo in about an hr and that made the trip completely worth it! I can't wait to take the girls again when they are a little older!

I knew the one thing I NEEDED to do while we were in Gulf Shores was get some pictures of my girls on the beach! Ibrought brand new outfits and had been prepping my family all week. Our last night there we attempted this photo shoot with much success. I could not be happier with how the photos turned out. I must have taken over 100 shots...but the 5 or 6 awesome ones were totally worth it. I am LOVING my new camera and feel so blessed when I see these pictures of my little girls and the rest of my family

Dentist=FUN!

Layna had her 1st trip to the dentist at the end of July. We have a wonderful family dentist but I was still a little nervous as to how she would do. I got my teeth cleaned 1st and I think that helped calm her a little bit. When it was her turn..she insisted that she sit on my lap while they lean the chair back and clean her teeth. This worked fine and I was really proud of Layna because she let them do a full cleaning on her--flossing and all! All of the cleaning tools had special names like 'Mr. Tickler' or 'Mr. Sprayer'. Layna thought it was funny and even got to pick out a Cinderella toothbrush! Good job on your 1st trip to the dentist Layna!

Home Away From Home

The girls and I decided to start an annual tradition of taking a week during the summer to go and stay with Karl's parents in Chicago. We planned the trip with Sheri and her kids as well. We had a blast going to the Brookfield Zoo, Swimming, Watching Movies and mostly just being with family. Sheila took two days off from work and it was really nice to visit with her and her kids. There are many more pics from this trip (mostly taken by Bev) but here are a few from my camera. Brad and Sarah added to their family within one month of being married! Amazing...huh?! Well we are excited to announce that they have a new Yellow Lab puppy named ACE! Although he reminds us of our Maggie (the yellow lab that we grew up with) we know he will be his own little guy with a unique personality! I'm just glad that my girls can enjoy Uncle Brad's puppy so hopefully this will distract them from any silly ideas that they need their own! HA! We met Ace for the 1st time on the 4th of July. We had an awesome time--and as I talked to Leeann I swore it was not that long ago that she was walking around about ready to POP last summer--and I was JUST pregnant with little Claire! Big Girl Food!

Claire is doing such a great job with her 'Big Girl Food' and I'm quite proud because I have made all of her baby food myself! I only wish I would have done this with Layna because its been cheap, easy and fun. So far Claire has done peas, sweet potato, butternut squash, carrots and bananas. Our only obsticle is when she thinks she needs to suck her thumb in between each bite! Silly Claire!

Great Grandma to little Girls!

The Nelson Family did something a little crazy this past weekend...We took two little girls on four different planes in less than 48 hrs! But it was all worth it because I was able to bring my girls to meet my Grandma Z in Portland OR. You see- my Grandma had 4 little boys..and although she loved her boys more than anything...she always wished to hold a baby girl. Well now she has two little Great Grand DAUGHTERS! And I couldnt pass up the chance to take them to meet her! So with the help of my wonderful husband and my father- we made the journey to the West Coast. The girls did AWESOME on the way out- mostly due to the fact that Claire was able to sleep in her car seat because neither flight was completely full- Thank you SOUTHWEST! We had a great time hanging out with Uncle Al and Aunt Ally who were nice enough to open their home to us. Most of all I loved watching my Grandma experience my two little angels. Layna dressed up like Cinderella and talked up a storm. Claire giggled, smiled, and lifted her head off the ground in true 'Claire fashion'. I was even fortunate enough to visit my Grandfather's grave. He is resting in a beautiful military site surrounded by green hills and trees.

We ate at some fun places- enjoying fish right off the coast and breakfast at 'Hash'...(they really did serve corned beef hash) Uncle Al even broke out the second to last bag of 'ZIM BERRIES' A special berry only grown and named by Grandpa Z. We set a new rule that 5 Zimmerman's have to be present for ZimBerries to be served! A new tradition! We played Hearts, walked to the park but most of all gave lots of hugs and kisses to Grandma Z. We are still recovering from this adventure here at the Nelson House but it was well worth the trip- and one we will never forget!

A Memory with Grandpa Fry!

I have written on our blog before about how blessed we are to have my Grandpa and Grandma Fry here in STL. This past week created an experience that was no exception! A few months ago Grandpa Fry wrote an essay to be chosen to throw out the first pitch at the Lutheran Senior Service Day at the Cardinals game. Although he was not chosen to throw out the pitch- he was chosen to be a part of the opening ceremony. As soon as we found this out- Karl, Ryan, Brad, Sarah and I all got tickets to the game to witness this special event. Working my charm in true 'Jenna Fashion' I was able to walk on the field with Grandpa and take close up shots of the opening event. Grandpa and I also enjoyed drinks before the game in the 'First Pitch Room', and were even invited out for dinner and drinks in the Champions Club by the Chairman of LSS. I guess it helped that I went to school with his son! HA!! By the time we arrived to our seats- it was the 4th inning. Im sure my siblings were jealous of my adventure but happy for Grandpa and I none the less. Over Memorial Day Weekend we had a visit from the Schellhas Family! Our good friends Aaron, Leeann, Natalee and our Godson Jarred. They moved to Peoria two years ago but we are lucky that we still get to see them quite often. We had a great weekend of grilling, playing in the pool, making necklaces and watching the girls dress up like princesses! I am already getting excited for my next visit to Peoria in July!

Our little Claire is now 5 months old! She had her 1st few bites of rice cereal yesterday and did pretty well. She now has no interest in playing on her back and either wants to be sitting (with help) or standing. She loves grabbing and reaching for things...I have a feeling she is going to be running around this place sooner rather than later. The most recent nick names that we have for Claire would include 'our little peanut', 'Claire-Z' and my favorite 'pumpkin' as she is still rockin' her red hair!

Last Friday evening- my mom, Layna and I attended a 'Mothers Day Tea' with Grandma Fry out at Breeze Park. It was a great event although the entertainment for the evening was a comedian who did a program called 'Cooking with Marge'. She was dressed up, working the crowd and talking in a loud, raspy voice. Bottom Line- Layna was SCARED! Her and I had to 'run far far away from that scary lady' for most of the night. We wondered the facility until the very end of the program when 'Marge' was finished. They gave away flowers to the oldest and youngest mothers in attendance. I miss being the youngest mom by 1 year! BUMMER! Overall- we had a great time. I feel very blessed that my grandparents now live in St. Louis and are able to see my girls growing up!

Grandpa Z welcomed Claire as a Child of God by baptizing her this Sunday April 25th. We were blessed to have Brad and Sarah as her Godparents. We had a great weekend with tons of family in town. As Im sitting here trying to type a blog entry..I am realizing that Im so tired- that what Im typing isnt making sense. The past 24 hrs have gone as follows: 11pm: Layna up out of bed, 2:30am: Claire up to eat, 5:00am: Claire up for good. The rest of the day looked something like this- dressing kids, feeding kids, taking pictures, eating, attending church, leaving church with screaming toddler, coming back into church, leaving church to feed screaming infant, taking more pictures, hugging lots of family, seeing lots of friends, playing outside, hunting for eggs, more pictures, a few tantrums, lots of candy, good times with family, a few more pictures, kids unpacked, kids in bed...WHEW....It was an AWESOME day...I'm BEAT....I LOVE MY LIFE...ENJOY THE PICS! :)

So when I received this amazing camera from Karl for Christmas/Anniversary/'Thanks for having babies' gift he made me promise that I would not want ANY new lenses or other accessories for a LONG TIME! Well once I started learning about my new camera and talking to friends who had the same one..I decided that I would LOVE to have a lens that was great for low lighting and close up photos. Much to Karl's dismay...I used my bday $$ to buy this new 35mm f1.8 lens and I LOVE IT! Here are some of my favorite pics from the first week with my new lens.

I had a blast dressing the girls up in green and having a 'photo shoot' with my new camera for St. Patty's Day. I learn more and more about this camera everyday and I LOVE IT! I also downloaded a free photo editing program that I am now playing around with- I just love the special effects in these pics! As I type this...Im proud to announce (while probably also jinxing myself) that Miss Claire slept from 10pm-6am last night!! GO GIRL!! We PRAY this was not just a fluke..but that we are moving into a life with a full night of sleep.

We are also super excited that this week/weekend our good friends Leeann, Natalee and Jarred are here visiting! Its been crazy taking care of four kids together so far...but so FUN as well. Like I told Leeann last night- 'I'd rather enjoy the craziness with someone else!' Especially when it's such a dear friend of mine :)

11 weeks old!

Well Claire is 11 weeks old today! I went back to work last week and Mary has done great so far with both girls. Claire has started the medication Prevacid for her reflux and it seems to really be working. She still wakes up once during the night but is pretty good about going right back to bed after eating. We LOVE that she is smiling and *talking* to us now! Time is flying by and we are excited for Spring to appear so that we can spend more time outside. Enjoy the pics!

We are having a great Valentines Day Weekend here at the Nelson house! We braved the mall yesterday and took both girls out with the double stroller- that was a crazy but fun experience. Then Karl took both girls out again and I was able to sleep for 3 HOURS in the afternoon. It was the best Valentines Day present a sleep deprived momma could have ever asked for. Sunday we went out to breakfast and ran to Target- another successful trip. This evening we will be grilling steaks and watching the Olympics.

The rest of my extended family was in Portland OR this weekend for my Grandfather's memorial service...although I wish I could have been there- we made the best of being here at home. The best part of this weekend is that Karl is off tomorrow for Presidents Day!! :)

I'm not proud to admit that Layna has probably watched more TV this past month than ever before! She is really good at playing by herself and helping with Claire but every once in awhile she just needs to be occupied by a Barney, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse..or THE PRINCESS MOVIE!! Layna had been getting IN AND OUT of bed at night since Claire was born..and mommy..being the good social worker that she is- decided to make a sticker chart! If Layna stayed in bed ALL NIGHT then she got a sticker on the chart- if she got 5 stickers then daddy would take her to get a prize! Daddy was suppose to just get her something of the $1 rack at Target but instead came home with a PRINCESS BARBIE MOVIE. Well...lets just say that we probably watch this thing atleast twice a day. And Karl and I sing the songs from the movie in our sleep at night. Point being..this is a post about a few of the things I have tried to do with Layna this past month BESIDES watching the princess movie! We have made muffins...and had a great time with Play Doh. Its only been 5 weeks and I already find myself referencing 'The GIRLS' often! I love the sound of that! Things are going well here..Claire has a little bit of acid reflux and just started taking Zantac last night. We are hopful that this will make her a little more comfortable. When Layna was first born I signed us up for a years worth of photo sessions with a private photographer out in St. Charles. Although she was awesome..and we have great pics of Layna- we are on a limited budget this time around. My good friend Laura was nice enough to come over and help me do a photo session with Claire. She has two boys Nick and Michael- so the boys and Layna also took part in the photo shoot! Although they are not 'professional' I think we still got some great pics. So even though we dont have the time or $$ to get professional pics taken every few weeks...we still think Claire is the cutest thing ever and will keep snapping away with our own cameras!! Enjoy!

The Nelson family is adjusting well to having become a FAMILY OF FOUR!! I have been blessed with wonderful help these past few weeks and starting Monday I will be 'going it alone' with the two girls! I only wish some of my mom friends who also have two kids lived a little closer :) Layna is doing well and LOVES Claire- We are getting sleep (some of the time) and I am trying to watch my diet as Claire seems to be very sensitive to the things I eat. ITS A GIRL!!

On December 29th at 6:13 am we welcomed Claire Elizabeth to our family! She weighed 7 lbs 5 oz and was 19.5 in long. She is just perfect and we are excited to be bringing in the new year by spending our first night home as a family of four.

So here's how it all went down...K and I were watching the Bears game in bed on Monday night when my water broke around 10pm. We called my parents and my dad came over to stay with Layna as we headed off to the hospital. We had to go to the evaluation unit to confirm that my water did infact break. Although it was very busy, they found me a room by about 11:30 pm. I was having contractions about every 5 minute and decided to get the epidural around 1:30am. Everything went well and I was glad that they didnt hit spinal fluid the way they had with Layna. At 3am the nurse confirmed that I was still at 2 cm and so they decided to start pitocin. By 5 am I was 7 cm..and 10 minutes later...yes...10 minutes..I was COMPLETE at 10 cm! The nurse quickly called the Dr. Alhering (who was the Dr on-call) and he barely made it in time. Once he arrived I push for about 10 minutes and Claire was born at 6:13 am. The nurse kept saying that the baby had lots of hair..so Karl and I were ready to see a black haired baby again...but to our surprise..she had beautiful reddish blond hair!

When Karl announced 'Its a GIRL' we were both so excited! I had a strong feeling all throughout the pregnancy that this was another girl and I was completely thrilled when my instincts were confirmed. I never had a sister growing up and I am so excited to raise two girls and experience the connection and bond between sisters.

I am feeling pretty good and Claire is doing great. She is nursing really well and is so tiny and sweet. Layna has been a wonderful big sister!! She calls her 'my baby' and wants to help in every way possible. Although we are a little overwhelmed by the idea of two kids at home now..we are blessed beyond belief to have these two beautiful girls!

Christmas!!

This Christmas was probably the most crazy/fun Christmas I have ever had! We attended church on Christmas Eve and then went back to the Zim's for some pizza. Christmas morning Layna was up at 5:30 and I think Karl was just as wired as she was so we began opening presents by 6:15. Watching Layna open her presents from Santa was a BLAST! She had been asking for a dollhouse for months and was so adorable when opening it. We then headed out to Karl's sisters house because Kurt and Bev got in town around 8:30. We enjoyed a nice breakfast (Thanks Sheri!) and then went to pick up G and G Fry. From then on we spent the day at Zim's for presents and an extended family party. We didnt get home until almost 8pm last evening. We were all exausted but had an awesome Christmas!! I thought Christmas when I was a KID was fun...but having kids of your own tops the cake! Cant wait till next year when I will have TWO to enjoy!

While in Chicago we were able to celebrate Christmas with Grandpa and Grandma Nelson. We had a wonderful dinner at a nice steak house and then came back home to see that Santa had come! Layna had so much fun opening presents- some of her favs were Thomas the Train, a frog drawing pad and new jammies! We will miss the fun with all of the other cousins on Christmas Eve but were glad to have our own Christmas celebration over Thanksgiving! Grandma and Grandpa Nelson will also be traveling to St Louis on Christmas morning this year so we are super excited to see them in the morning before heading to the Zimmermans!

Im still feeling well..just Big, Tired, and Uncomfortable!! I still feel like Baby Nelson #2 will wait until after the New Year to make his/her appearace..but we shall see! Im hoping the excitement of the holidays keeps me busy enough to forget that I am 9 mo preggo!!

Thanksgiving/Black Friday!!

We had a great time this year in Chicago for Thanksgiving! It was the last time I was able to travel and we were grateful to spend 4 days with the Nelson Family. We also broke a new record for departure time on Black Friday- 3:15 am!! The craziest part is that I was awake and ready to go shortly after midnight!! I guess something about being pregnant and knowing I was waking up at 3 to go shopping caused me lack of sleep that evening. The first pic is for scrapbooking purposes only..to actually prove that YES I did still go shopping on Black Friday- even though I was as big as a HOUSE!!

32 Weeks!!

I'm just getting read to end my 32 week so I figured Id better post pictures! This also helps remind me to continue taking pictures so that I can attempt to make this baby's scrapbook as detailed and thick as Laynas. I'm sure this will be a challenge! Lately when people ask when Im due- I say January 15th and then they respond with 'Wooh...you have a ways to go..' Im convinced people dont know quite how close January is..you see this makes me feel better rather than dwelling on the fact that most people think I'm HUGE! Most times when I say- 'Well- I had Layna about 6 weeks from now..' they say.. 'Ohh ok..thats not that far off!' Anyhow...Be nice to the pregnant lady people!

Overall I feel pretty good- Just the normal complaints. We are looking forward to heading to Chicago for Thanksgiving for a wonderful family dinner and EARLY morning shopping on Friday. When I say EARLY..I mean we will be leaving the house between 3 and 3:30. We are crazy but we have a good time. Hopefully I can waddle my way through the crowds. :) Layna and Karl are wonderful as always. We have a good time trying to imagine what it will be like when the newest member of our family arrives but most days we just cant picture it until he or she actually makes an appearance! The Jury is till out on names..especially boys names so if you have any suggestions send them my way! We hope this approaching holiday season finds you and your family doing well :)

Every year our Halloween neighborhood party gets bigger and bigger. We had a blast again this year because many of our friends and family joined us. Layna and her daddy have such a cool relationship! I had to post these pictures of them reading together..and then Layna reading to her daddy. Sometimes when I walk in the door from work Layna says 'but where's my daddy?' Instead of being offended- I remind myself how thankful I am that Layna has such a great daddy. When Layna wants to roughhouse with Karl- she will say 'stay away from me Monster..' and that is his cue to chase her and act like a monster. They love running errands, playing outside, and even watch Bears football together. Ohh and the last pic is of Layna pretending to be a baby in her play babybed..Oh boy!! 28 Weeks!

So here is the 28 week belly!! I am still feeling pretty good beside the normal complaints! I do feel pretty big lately but Im trying to tell myself that I dont waddle *that* much yet..being that I have atleast 10 weeks left! (I had Layna at 38 weeks..so Im counting down early!) Layna is getting very excited to be a BIG SISTER and seems to understand that its hard for Mommyto play on the floor with her big belly. Karl has been wonderful..doing a lot of the cooking and getting up to tuck Layna back in if/when she wakes up at night.

One of the kiddos at my school seemed to be very intrigued by my changing body..I often found her staring at me in the hallway. Well..she informed me yesterday that she had figured it out- I was the 'round, puffy version of Mrs. Nelson'. She is in 6th grade- so I took her word for it. She then proceeded to say 'Well...good luck with all that going on in your stomach' The preschoolers think my belly button IS the baby..which is humorous..and the 1st and 2nd graders keep asking me 'does that hurt?' So needless to say..the kids at school keep me laughing when I occasionally feel like crying! Overall I am very blessed to have a healthy and uneventful pregnancy.

24 Weeks

Things are going well here at the Nelson house! I am 24 weeks now and grateful that this has been a very easy and uneventful pregnancy thus far. We are excited that my Grandparents from Michigan have moved down to STL and plan on seeing them often! Layna is doing great in her 'Big GIRL Bed' and loves sleeping there every night. My first VERY vivid baby dream was this week. Karl and I were at the hospital waiting for the baby to arrive and when it came- It was a CHUBBY baby GIRL with black hair just like her sister. She resembled Layna but it wasnt her- and the biggest difference was that she was even CHUBBIER!! Lord help me!! So I document this to see if my dream has any substance. We shall see...

BIG GIRL ROOM!!

This weekend my parents took Layna overnight on Sunday and all day Monday so that we could get her BIG GIRL ROOM ready!! Karl agreed to do wainscoting on the bottom of the walls if we didnt have to paint anything in the room PINK! I loved the idea of the wainscoting and decided to take a risk with orange walls. Paint has never scared me..so we went for it! When it first went on the wall I was a bit leary but now that the room is put together..I LOVE IT!! I found this bedroom set on Craigslist for super cheap which I love as well! The bedding, curtains and pillows are all from JCPenny's.

Layna has been talking about her big girl room for quite awhile and has even mentioned wanting to sleep in there. We may try that in the next couple of weeks and see how it goes. The very worst that can happen is that she goes back in the crib for another couple of months! The rest of our time this weekend has been spent reorganizing, decluttering, pitching and CLEANING!! Some of my favorite things..literally! I know...its a sickness! We have even reorganized are storage closet and boy does it feel GREAT!! Thanks again G and G Z for keeping Layna busy so that we could be so productive!!

The kiddos at my school had fun guessing boy/girl, due date and weight of the newest Nelson Baby- with the promise of a wonderful prize to the one who guesses most correctly. 17 Weeks

Hello Family and Friends!! Yes we are still alive and kickin' here at the Nelson household! I realize it has been A LONG time since I have updated this blog..and for that I apologize! Its been so long that I almost forgot my password into this goofy thing! BUT I've decided that I have a GOOD EXCUSE! Baby Nelson #2 is Due in JANUARY!! WOO HOO!! So here continues the update:

I found out I was pregnant back at the 1st of May! Karl and I were a bit shocked that we would be having a JANUARY baby..but excited none the less! We have heard the heartbeat several times which is very exciting. As far as we can tell everything seems to be going just fine. I am however super excited to get my 'big' ultrasound on Sept 9th to confirm that our little one is healthy! I tell ya- the worrying about your kids begins early I guess!

The good news is that I wasnt near as sick this time as I was with Layna. As some of you remember I was throwing up numerous times a day with her and with this one..I managed to ALWAYS keep my food down! Such a blessing being that I was trying to keep a 2 year old entertained. Dont get me wrong I still felt pretty barfy for about 8 weeks but it was much more tolerable!

Just like last time..we will wait and be surprised to find out if this is a boy or a girl! We just loved it so much the first time..we figured we would do it the same way again! So far the *string test* is predicting GIRL but many say my lack of puking may mean BOY!! We shall see!! We would LOVE another little girl..but a BOY would be fun in ways we cant even imagine :)

The only other news around our place is that our dear friends Rachel and Billy are expecting TWINS any day now! They are my *heros* in that they literally have ultrasounds every couple of weeks and STILL waited to be surprised about what they are having! The suspense is killing all of us but let me tell you- I CANNOT wait to get that phone call! I was able to visit Rachel last weekend by myself which was wonderful! Karl along with my mother-in-law helped care for Layna while Rachel and I did nothing other than EAT, Lay by the pool, and rent movies! It was awesome! Soon both of our lives will be nothing short of crazy!

Layna's 2nd Birthday!

On Layna's actual 2nd birthday we went to Grants Farm, Burger King (because they have milk free hamburgers and fries) and then opened a few presents at our house. It was the same day my brother Brad graduated from Valpo- and although we were sad to miss the graduation, we had a very relaxing day at home with just our family!

The big party happened the next weekend and we were so thrilled that my Grandpa and Grandma Freivogel and Aunt Jill from MI could make the trip to join us! We had the party outside as it was a beautiful day. I made L's cake again this year- A princess crown with glass slipper cookies along side of it. The princess party Layna requested was a hit! She had an adorable princess dress (bought by Grandma Z) princess shoes (which I ran out and got that morning), princess decorations and princess presents. Some of her favorite were her princess jewlery from Aunt Sheri and her princess carriage from Aunt Laura. I could type forever..but Ill stop now! Enjoy the pics!
